We promote socialization and stimulation for both carers and their loved ones.
Our aim is to give the feel good factor in everything we do. We keep the dementia sufferer as themselves longer by listening, supporting and understanding their personal needs. Respect and dignity is paramount. Respite from the caring role is what all carers need.
Some of the group are part of Halton Healthwatch and attend their workshops. Our current carer's are members of Halton Carers' Centre. Former carers are all experienced with Dementia from diagnosis to later stages.
We are strong as a group and work to keep things normal. We are here to support you. Don't be isolated; enjoy yourselves with an extended family.
After an optional hot or cold lunch from the cafe (Meals are provided by The Country Garden Cafe or you can bring your own) we have Quizzes, Games, Fun and Laughter. Our games include New Age Kurling and Ten pin bowling provided by HBC Sports Development team.
We also make seasonal things and paint. Although some days we only may chat it is all very meaningful.
We have guest visitors and activities. These include Zumba Gold, Tai Chi, presentations from Liverpool Museum and Runcorn Historical Society.
In 2012 we had a civic visit from The Mayor and Mayoress of Halton.
We also have theatre trips to the Liverpool Empire, the Brindley in Runcorn and have been by coach to Llandudno, Llangollen and the Anderton Boat Lift.
The group is now putting the message out in the community and has a stand at the regular Carers' Forums at the Stobbart Stadium, the home of the Widnes Vikings.
It has been developed by the group from the early days in 2008 with just 6 people around one table to well over 50 now.
Originally set up by the Alzheimer's Society as a much needed informal group, it has been allowed to carry on totally independent and is well respected within the borough.
Year by year more people have found the Lunch Bunch by recommendation.
We also have referrals from Halton Adult Placement Service and Halton Carers' Centre.
It is the unique spirit of the Lunch Bunch that has enabled us to develop and flourish. There is no pressure to join in as the enjoyment can be felt just by being there.
